Many thanks to Dustin and his family for their work in laying a great foundation with their GSP, Solo.

Hello Rae,
Solo retrieved his 1st wild game bird today. We were out driving around looking for deer, bear, grouse and whatever, so I took Solo with us. Saw a grouse in the road so I got him out and walked him up towards where the grouse left the road. It flew before we got very close and I knocked it down. I walked him in the direction and he heard it flapping and went and picked it up and brought it to me. He's not gun shy at all and the bird flapping in his face didn't bother him a bit. He loves birds and the hardest part is getting him to leave it alone after you take it from him. He shows a lot of natural instinct. My work will be coming to an end for the winter here in a couple weeks and I will have a lot more time to start working him.

Hi Rae,
I finally had some time to sit down, reply properly and send you some updated pictures.
The pictures were taken this afternoon, down a trail, not-too-far from where we live (one of Fenwick's favourite spots). Pardon the red scarf but there were quite a few deer around and I wanted him to be visible to any hunters. I included another photo that is a little older, but is one of my personal favourites.
Fenwick or Fenn, as he better known, is doing absolutely fantastic. He has adapted so well in fact, that it seems as though he has always been a part of our lives. He is one of the kindest, most gentle animals that I have ever met and everyone who meets him is amazed at how intelligent and well behaved he is.
We began socializing him at local off-lease dog parks as soon as he was fully vaccinated. We are really glad that we did this because he is very respectful and well behaved around other dogs. We did the same with children. He is so gentle that none of our friends or family have any concerns letting their young kids play with him.
As far as hunting training goes, he is what I would consider as "advanced" for his age (I am a little bias though). He knows and obeys all of his voice commands and we have been working on hand and whistle commands for the past month or so. I have slowly introduced him to the shot and he is not the least bit gun shy. He has had limited exposure to birds thus far but that will be changing shortly as the season will soon be in full swing. I am confident that this will be another area that he will advance with ease and then I will never be able to get him out of the jeep when we get home.
His new favourite thing is camping. He especially likes the tent because he has an excuse to sleep in bed next to us (in between us actually). He is as good-as-gold and sleeps the entire night without ever wanting out. Quite amazing actually for a puppy his age.
I think that is all of the news here with us. We love him sooo much and we could not have ever imagined that we would be so lucky to have such an awesome dog.
Thank you so very much again,
Andrew and Cassie
